Many have probably already heard the term “Galentine’s Day” floating around this time of year when people are celebrating the season of love. Galentine’s Day is not only a way to celebrate love that doesn’t involve your significant other but it’s an empowering movement promoting women and friendship. Thanks to a 2010 episode of “Parks and Recreation” the Galentine’s movement has really been picking up steam in recent years with events and restaurant specials popping up not just around the US but globally.

Retailers and restaurants alike are suddenly realizing the potential of hopping on the Galentine’s Day train with it potentially increasing Valentine’s Day revenues by as a much as 20% in the next three years. Etsy, Hallmark and Party City are offering Galentine specific products for the simplest of celebrators to the most extravagant celebrators. Galentine’s Day has officially transformed from a made-up sitcom holiday to being a full-fledged commercial holiday. While Valentine’s Day is typically only celebrated on February 14th, it’s important to note that Galentine’s Day is ‘officially’ February 13th, but is commonly celebrated throughout February.

In honor of this growingly popular holiday, I asked some of the ladies of PMG what they would be doing celebrate and their responses were nothing short of amazing.

I will be celebrating with my friend Alana! We’re doing a craft night and PJ party potluck.

Carly Cason, Account Supervisor

I’m going to be celebrating with my friends. We’re going out for Tex-Mex and margaritas!

Emma Mikulecky, SEM Coordinator

My best friend will be giving birth to her second baby and I’m going to be there to support her!

Sirine Saad, SEM Coordinator

I mean, our pod gave each other strep for Galentine’s Day. That’s pretty cute right?

Sarah Kelly, Social Account Lead

For brands, we recommend jumping on the Galentine’s Day hype and using the opportunity to promote gal pals, gifting, wellness initiatives, and the importance of friendship. From social media posts to in-store sales and promotions focused on love and friendship, there are plenty of ways to integrate the celebration of Galentine’s Day into your campaigns.

Whether it’s going out for dinner and drinks, staying in to watch movies or simply getting each other cards, Galentine’s Day is here to stay and will only grow in popularity. PMG’s Amanda Morrison said it best, “I have never looked at Galentine’s Day as a time to celebrate with friends because of our marital status but more of a celebration of those relationships with each other. I would prefer the fake holiday of Galentine’s over Valentine’s any day!”
