QR Codes That Might Finally Work
I have been a staunch believer that QR codes were one of digital marketings’ biggest and most mockable flubs from the 2000’s, however, I am about to eat my words based on SnapChat’s latest update.
SnapChat has launched the ability for you to create custom SnapCodes that can drive to any URL. For those familiar with SnapChat, this is the same process that you can use to add new friends on SnapChat. You basically take your phone, scan your friends’ SnapCode, and bam, you’re now following that user on SnapChat.
Now, users and brands can create custom SnapCodes that can take a user on a unique experience. This could be a fun new way for brands to interact with users online and offline.
A few ways we can picture this coming to life:
SnapCodes Scavenger Hunts – send users on a journey by providing clues via SnapCodes and the custom URLs.
Tell a Full Story – use SnapCodes to give people more information about a product or topic – picturing museum signage now providing a more interactive experience.
Revolutionize In-Store Experiences – allow users to scan the content to take them to a product video or interactive product details.
Create Interactive Experiences at Sporting Events – place SnapCodes on stadium signage to expand on advertising opportunities.
Scan for Sweeps – make SnapCode scans a part of sweepstakes entries.
We’re excited to see where these goes, and hopefully they don’t end up on a blog like this!
