iPad 3 Overheating: A Hot Product With Even Hotter Temperatures
Kerry Dean has written this article. More details coming soon.
That’s right, Tommy Lee Jones. You saved us from the heat in ‘Volcano’. Now, can you work your magic with the iPad 3?
The new iPad 3 is awesome. Seriously. After reading some reviews and comparison guides, it’s pretty clear that Apple continues to remain a step ahead of the competition (or at least at the head of the pack) in nearly every measurable category. However, reports are coming out about the new iPad 3 overheating.
ConsumerReports claims that the new iPad 3 hit 116 degrees while plugged in and running games. That’s 13 degrees hotter than the iPad 2 in the same conditions. When unplugged and gaming, iPad 3 temperatures were getting up to 113 degrees. Now that’s still pretty warm.
But don’t sweat the heat too much.
TechRadar says:
“We noticed the tablet’s feverish nature in our definitive new iPad 3 review, particularly during longer tablet sessions, but we didn’t find it got too hot to handle.”

Surfing through various Apple forums, it’s clear that there are many users complaining about the iPad 3 temperatures, with some users going as far as asking Apple to recall the new gadget. I guess we’ll need to see how this plays out. I’m still very interested in purchasing one. Personally, I’m not phased by the heat. I’m more held up by the price. By the time I save up to get one, I’ll probably just hold out for the iPad 4. And it’ll probably be much cooler. Pun intended.
